It should not merely rehearse the critical arguments that have already been made about your topic. It is important to keep in mind that this assignment is not a report. This paper should present an original argument about an aspect or aspects of literature and should engage with critical sources. In your English literature courses, you’ll be asked to write a formal analysis (sometimes called a “research paper,” a “term paper,” or even a “documented literary analysis”). ![]()
